Petit Jean State Park; Morrilton, Arkansas from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We've moved along to Petit Jean State Park in Morrilton, Arkansas. When I plan trips, I'm using this book to choose the best state parks in a given state.

Originally, I had one other park selected (Mt. Magazine), but decided against it when this trip got too darned long. There's always so much to see on a road trip like this one, and never enough time. We're here for two more nights. It's supposed to start raining around lunch time, and so we're going to try to get out early ...

Project Planning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another hazy day today, and expected to get fairly warm. We ran our A/C yesterday, but we were able to turn it off and open the windows when we went to bed last night. I'm hopeful it won't get as hot as it was earlier in the month.

There was a lot on yesterday's to-do list. Fortunately, most of it was finished up with my morning running around town. I'd missed my slow-stitching before leaving home, and so I started there after lunch, filling my hoop and moving to ...

Book review! The book is divided into three parts. The first part examines the past and present trends that will shape the future, such as globalization, technology, and demographic shifts. Attali argues that these trends will continue to accelerate and intertwine, creating a world that is more interconnected, diverse, and unequal. The second part of the book explores different scenarios for the future, ranging from dystopian visions of environmental collapse and social breakdown to optimistic visions of a post-scarcity society in which technology has eliminated poverty and inequality. Attali emphasizes that the future is not predetermined and that different choices ...

The Tess Take-Over: Publishing an Indie Novel on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

I used to think that there was nothing better than a good book—the kind that makes you spend days cocooned in your favorite reading nook, not a care in the world. Turns out, the only thing better than reading a good book is writing one. My name is Tess, and this week I'm taking over my mom's blog to tell you about my debut novel, Kit & Basie (Tales from Long Lily, 1), and how the heck I got to this point.

My mom can tell you I've been writing stories since before I could accurately spell ...

Yeah know, I don't know where the idiom, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" comes from.  I know we're all set in our ways, but really, doesn't everyone like to learn something new that will make their life easier?  That's what I did this week.  I continued on with The Quilt Show's Block of the Month quilt, Homeward Bound.  With June, came the piecing of the stars that radiate all the way to the edge corners.  When I first read the directions, they were made ...

My First & Last Quilt on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

This time of year is always brutal around here.   We have Paul's birthday, our anniversary, Mother's

Day, and my birthday all in the same four weeks, it adds up to a lot of socializing and family time.  It is better than it used to be because before we also had all the end-of-the-school-year activities to add to the list.  Now as empty nesters, we are used to our creative time and that has sure been in short supply.

So this week, I thought it a good idea to share my first and last quilt.  In 1993, I started ...

A New Day from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We were without power for 21 hours yesterday. It's the longest power outage in my memory. What an exceedingly boring day! Fortunately, I had a fully-charged headlamp, and so I could spend most of my day on hand embroidery. But let me tell you...even for someone like me, obsessed with hand embroidery, it gets old after a while. Besides, previously broken thumbs begin to grumble after a couple of hours. Nevertheless, I was able to finish up the Winter Wonder piece.

It isn't really finished because it should still have a tiny quilt ...
